HOUSE OF COMMONS -- Select Committee on Foreign Affairs Sixth Report -- 2004-05)][ } {@} { ][( 132. Turning to Iran, on 1 March the Foreign Secretary told the House: "There has been more co-operation … between the coalition forces in Iraq and the Government of Iran in respect of MEK, which is a nasty terrorist organisation that has to be contained." It is regrettable that Iran has not offered greater assistance in other areas of co-operation in Iraq. 133. We conclude that Iraq's neighbours continue to have a role to play in assisting the political transition in Iraq and improving the security situation. We recommend that the Government continue to work with regional states including Syria and Iran to encourage them to play a more co-operative role. |
